While You’re Here
Laundry & Linens: We will provide pillows, blankets, sheets, and towels for your stay. You are welcome to wash laundry in the complimentary linen room, located on the first floor, through the second door of the red building. There are two washers and two dryers, an iron and an ironing board, as well as additional sheets, should you need them. Please keep the linen room clean and avoid leaving your laundry in the machines for unnecessary amounts of time as a courtesy to others.
Cleaning & Trash: Our housekeeping staff ensures that each suite is carefully cleaned before you arrive; however, during your stay, it is your responsibility to keep your suite orderly. Full housekeeping service is only available for check-in and check-out. If needed, there are two black recycling bins located outside the kitchen entrance on the side of the center building, designated for metal and plastic. In the gated area adjacent to the staff parking lot, there are two large bins: the one on the left is for trash, and the one on the right is for cardboard. NEVER leave the gate to the area unlatched, as animals will make a mess of what they find. Please only flush toilet paper in our toilets; we are on a septic system.
House Rules: Avaloch Farm is a smoke-free facility. If you smoke, you must leave the main campus area and remain at least 100 feet from the buildings. Please keep our property clean of any trash.
We do not allow residents to have pets during their stay. If you have a Service Animal, please contact us in advance to make arrangements. Emotional Support Animals are not considered service animals and are therefore not permitted on campus.
Your thermostat is set to a comfortable temperature. If, however, you wish to adjust it, please stay between 68 and 72 degrees. Please be mindful of the overall heat and air conditioning consumption during your stay. If you have an issue in your studio or room, please contact the main office, and we will be happy to assist you. Do not leave windows and doors open while the heat or air conditioning is operating.
Please treat our facilities like you would your own home. Dishes and silverware should be returned to the kitchen when you are finished with them, and please ensure that all trash is disposed of after using the Common Space. Please refrain from placing items on our pianos. If you do make a mess, kindly clean up after yourself.
AVALOCH FARM MUSIC INSTITUTE WELCOME INFORMATION
Welcome to Avaloch Farm Music Institute! We are delighted to host you for a time of creativity and contemplation in your artistic pursuits. Please familiarize yourself with the following information before your arrival.
Check-In, Check-Out, and Meals
Check-in will be anytime after 11 AM on Mondays. As you drive down Hardy Lane, you will see a large stone engraved with Avaloch Farm, with buildings beyond it on the right. While checking in, please drive to the small lot with handicap spots and park there to unload. The main office is located at the first entrance of the red building. An Avaloch Staff Member will be ready to welcome you and help answer any questions you may have during your stay. Avaloch’s Suites and Studios operate on a keycode system. Codes are posted on the back of each suite and studio door. Each resident will have a private room within a two-person suite. If you have not already, please let us know if any members of your ensemble are partners and will be sharing a bedroom. The suites have a small kitchenette, a shower room, and a separate bathroom.
You must check out of your rooms and suites by 10:00 AM so that housekeeping can prepare the rooms in time for the next Cohort. However, you may continue to use your studio until 4 PM on Saturdays. Please leave the main door to your suite OPEN so housekeeping knows you have left. Blankets & quilts remain in the rooms. Sheets, pillowcases, and towels should be placed in the blue bags in the laundry room before your departure. Just outside the office, you'll find a guest book, perfect for recording brief memories of your stay with us. We genuinely enjoy hearing about your experiences while you were at the Farm.

About the Area
The campus is composed of four main buildings: the South Wing, which is the red building; the Center Wing, housing the dining and common areas; the North Wing, home to staff apartments; and the West Wing, the green building. We have six practice studios, three in the South Wing and three in the West Wing. There are also three cabins situated throughout the property, offering more secluded and quiet settings. Our newly constructed concert barn is located just east of the Red Building.
Parking: The primary parking lot for guests is accessed by following the first right turn just beyond the central Avaloch facility. You will find a pleasant little forest path with a small bridge that leads you back to the campus. The lot is gravel with no formally defined parking spaces, so please park conscientiously. The small parking lot located closer to the buildings is reserved for handicapped, staff, and short-term parking.
Outdoor Locations: The Avaloch property is sprawling and scenic, and we want you to enjoy it! In addition to the Avaloch lawns and practice cabins, Founder Fred Tauber allows residents access to the lake adjacent to his property. Here, canoeing is possible in the summer. There are two paths to the lake; one is the long way through the woods, and the other is more direct and scenic. Refer to the map to find your way there, or ask a staff member or a musician who has attended previously. A large blueberry patch is located between Avaloch and Fred’s private property, open for PYOB on Thursdays through Sundays during the summer from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please do not walk across the fields with tall grass. These are hayfields that are harvested periodically throughout the summer.
Around Boscawen: Boscawen is a small agricultural community. Richardson’s Farm ice cream and pies at the end of our road are delicious, and all made on-site. During the season, several farm stands in the area offer a variety of tasty, locally grown produce. Concord, the state capital, is roughly 10 miles away (20 minutes) on I-93 South, where you can find a multitude of restaurants, hair salons, stores (especially the LL Bean outlet), etc. Tilton, about the same distance on 93 North, boasts a large outlet mall and other large stores. In the neighboring town of Franklin, there is the first whitewater kayaking facility in New England. The White Mountains are between 40 and 60 minutes away by car, offering what many consider the best hiking in the region.
Flora and Fauna: You are in New Hampshire on a quiet farm, and with that comes certain animals that frequent the property—porcupines, skunks, deer, turkeys, bears, even the occasional moose. Dawn and dusk are popular times for their appearance, so please be mindful at those times. It does get very dark at night, so bringing a flashlight if you have to go to your car will not only help you get there, but it also serves as a simple defense against the local wildlife. Making noise and clapping your hands can alert and drive animals away.
Ticks: New Hampshire has a high density of ticks, which can carry Lyme disease and other blood-borne illnesses. Please wear protective leg gear when walking in the woods, even if that means fashionably tucking your pants into your socks. Be sure to check yourself daily for any hitchhikers.
Poison Ivy: There is a large amount of poison ivy in the woods, often found on the edges of stone fences or around isolated trees. Please be careful not to depart from the existing paths, as you will very likely find it there.
